With so much happening all at once, it's difficult to remember all the details involved with moving.  We at Trollinger Real Estate have created a guide to assist you in your move.  With careful planning, you can save hours of work.

 Before You Leave:

 Address Changes


 Empty freezer and refrigerator, defrost freezer
  Post Office, Give Forwarding Address 
 Service appliances for moving
  Charge Accounts/Credit Cards

 Note TV/Entertainment center cabling
  Subscriptions:  Notice may require several weeks
 Clean rugs or clothing before moving/have them moving wrapped

 Friends and Relatives

 Check with moving coordinator, insurance coverage, packing and unpacking labor, arrival day, various shipping papers, method, time of expected payment and phone number where they can reach you
 

 Bank


 Empty gasoline from lawn mower, discard flammable cleaning fluids
  Transfer funds, arrange check cashing in new city

 Label boxes you will need right away.
  Arrange credit references

 Plan for special care needs of infants or pets.
  Empty safe deposit box
  Plan to have car serviced for trip.
 

 Insurance

 
 On Moving Day:

 Notify company of new location for coverages; Life, Health,
Fire and Auto

 Make hotel reservations if you ar etraveling for more than one day or you have to wait for the movers to arrive
 

 Utility Companies


 Take a local phone directory with you.
  Gas, Light, Telephone, Fuel, Garbage and Cable TV

 Carry cash and travelers checks to cover moving services and expense until you make banking connections in new city.
  Get refunds on any deposits made

 Carry jewelry and documents yourself.
 

 Delivery Service


 Plan for pet transport

 Laundry, Newspaper; Changeover of service

 Tell close friend travel schedule and stops along the way.
 

 Medical, Dental, Prescription Histories


 Double check closets, drawers, shelves to be sure they are empty

 Ask doctor and dentist for referrrals, transfer needed prescriptions,
eyeglasses, x-rays, obtain birth records, medical records, etc.

 Leave old keys needed by new tenant or owner with realtor or neighbor.
 

 Automobile

 
 At Your New Address:

 Verify requirements for auto licensing

 Arrange for someone to be at your new home when the moving van arrives.
  Schools
 Inspect everything before you sign your moving receipt.  Find out how many days you have to claim any possible damages.

 Determine the school you child will attend and records needed

 Obtain certified check or cashiers check needed for closing real estate transaction.
 

 Pets


 Check on telephone, gas, electricity, water and garbage service.
  Determine regulations for tags, licenses, vaccinations
 Check pilot light on stove, hot water heater, and furnace.
  
 Have appliances checked.
  
 Ask mailman for mail he may be holding for your arrival.
  
 Have new address recorded on driver's license.
  
 Visit city offices and register for voting.
  
 Register car within five days after arrival in state or a penalty may have to be paid when getting new license plates.
  
 Obtain inspection sticker and transfer motorclub membership.
  
 Apply for state driver's license.
  
 Register family in new place or worship.
  
 Register children in school
  
 Arrange for medical services: Doctor, Dentist, Veterinarian, etc.
